Truth: Stranger Than Fiction
The story you're about to read is real. No names or places have been changed, for any reason...
So the other day I got this phone call, I was at work, so it just went to voice mail. The message went a little something like this:
"Hey Scott, this is Mary Parrot, I was just calling you because we're having a surprise party for Shawn. I just wanted to let you know for ideas who we should call to invite. I talked to Andy and your mom..."
...and it went on to say the time and place and such. Now you might be thinking one of two things, either: (1) So what, where's this story going, or (2) So what, Shawn's mom, who's new last name might be Parrot is throwing him a surprise party... hold tight.
Meanwhile, I call up my brother, and I ask him if Shawn's mom's last name is now Parrot, he told me otherwise. I tell him about the message and he has no idea what I'm talking about.
So it gets a little thicker.
I called my mom, no answer, but Andy told me that he did a little later and that she didn't get a call either.
WHO ARE YOU?!?
So then I realize, she called me on my cell phone. I have her number!
I called her, the following conversation ensued:
-Hello?
-Hello, is Mary there?
-May I ask who's speaking?
-It's Scott.
-Oh! I thought I recognized the number. How are you?
-Well, here's the deal, I don't know who you are.
-It's Mary Parrot, So-and-So's girlfrind, dip-sh!t!
-Uh... I don't know who that person is either. Listen, you left this message on my phone about a party, but I don't know who you are.
-Well, I got this number from Such-and Such's mom so she might have given me the wrong number, that's a weird coincidence that your name is Scott too.
-No, that's only a little coincidence, my brother's name is Andy too. And also, we have a friend named Shawn.
-NO WAY!
-Yup.
-Wait! Did you grow up and live in Liverpool?
-Nope, I grew up and lived in Lakeport
-Wow, weird.
-Yeah, and also, Shawn's mom's name is Mary.
-That's so weird...
-Yeah, her name is Mary Eagle.
-Wow! Okay, well tell your mom sorry about all the fuss.
-Oh no, don't worry about it, have fun at your party!
-Thanks, bye
-Have a great night, bye.
So I called my brother back to tell him that the mystery is solved and that we can all once again sleep at night, except that there is apparently someone else living our lives, only in Liverpool.
Thanks for reading!
Scott.
