An Unusual Guest

There is this park that I go to almost everyday; to walk and read. It's a really nice park, with a small lake and a paved trail that encircles it. The paved trail is about two miles long, however, there are a few trails that go "off the beaten path," if you will. This one particular trail I see everyday, but I never go down it because it's closed. I always wonder, "what's that trail like, where does it go?" Well, I found out today! I broke that rule and bent over to go under the chain they had going across it and went on my way. I figured, I'm entering at my own risk, and if get hurt, I'm not the type to sue.

So the path is really nice. It goes through a very wooded area and scoots down closer to the lake. You can tell that people don't use this trail often, obviously, because it is closed. But something very strange happened while I was walking on that path today. Once I got into the trail a little, away from all the other people and such, and unusual feeling came over me. It was right out of the Lord of the Rings, I felt like the trees themselves were alive, and very aware of my presence. It was really bizarre. As I walked along, the trees and other plants seemed to settle to my existence, like I was some unusual guest that they didn't know how to deal with. There was a constant rustleing among the undergrowth, and of course if I stopped to look to see if I could catch anything, it would stop. A tree hung down very low in one spot of the trail, just a few feet from the ground; it was as if it had arms and fingers. The awkward feeling was so intense by this point I really though, for just a moment, "this tree is going to pick me up, and I'll never be heard from again."

It was pretty cool. It was one of the most unique experiences I have ever had in Creation. I'd also have to point out that the park itself, in general, is a pretty unique place. It makes me think of the Garden of Eden almost. It's a pretty small park but there is a ton of wild life there. And it seems to mostly get a long really well. Ducks, geese, swans, turtles, squirrels, woodchucks, and humans. All walking around, side by side without a care in the world. It's a really nice place to go.

Matt Hooper

This is a photo of Matt Hooper. He's the fiddle player for the band Kickin' Grass. He's quite good. Maybe one of the best I've ever heard. You can check out the bands website, it's in my Pick's list. Their CD is really pretty good. He has recently released a solo album as well. However, the reason for this post: I just really love the picture!

Thank you for reading!
Scott.
